History

While the island has had many owners and residents over the past 1000 years, the majority of what remains for us to explore in the landscape today belongs to the last 200 years.

Here you can find out about Brownsea's history and what remains, including present-day photographs. (At the bottom of each page is a gallery where they are easier to view!) To see historic images, more information, and to find out more about Island life, download a history guide and visit the island if you can!
